Marathon City – The View’s Great Up Here!

Located at the intersection of STH 29 and STH 107, Marathon City is minutes west of the I-39 corridor. Marathon City sits above the banks of the Big Rib River on Marathon Hill and combines the best of rural living with the convenience of urban access. Our picturesque Community is home to 1576 residents, award-winning schools, corporations that lead their industry segments, and over 50 small businesses with focuses in agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality, personal finance, medical, and services. Marathon City is an employment center for the region with nearly 2000 people commuting to the Village daily for work and is recognized regionally, nationally, and globally for the products created here.

County Material

Marathon City is home to the corporate headquarters of Marathon Cheese Corporation (the largest cheese packing company in the country), Menzner Hardwoods (the largest hardwood millwork company in the country), and County Materials Corporation (a multi-state ready-mix, masonry, landscaping, and precast, and prestressed concrete products company). Over the past 6 years, these companies have invested millions of dollars in expansions within the Village, demonstrating their confidence in the workforce and the Community.

Since 2014, multiple other companies have chosen to locate in Marathon City and have built facilities in the Marathon City Business Park. These investments have generated $41.8M in new increment value in TID #1 and an increase of 143% since 2016.

Marathon City is working to expand its business park to property north of STH 29. This will provide access to over 130 acres of land in the Village available for development. Construction of 1.6 miles of industrial access road as well as utility infrastructure is planned for the spring of 2023. The Village is currently working with multiple companies and developers who will be the first in this expanded area.

The Village is actively engaged in other community development activities including a new Sports Complex / Public Park and a new Wastewater Treatment Plant. Residential development is a critical element of the community development plans of the Village. The expansion of multi-family and single-family housing units provides opportunities for the commuting workforce and others to join our Community. The Village has also been working to redevelop an entire block at the center of the Community located in TID #2. The focus for this redevelopment has been a multi-tenant retail facility with a desire for a grocery store or hardware store to be the anchor tenant.

Marathon City has a rich history and a bright future.

The Village will continue to look forward, pursue economic development partnerships and provide services and amenities to residents of the region. We invite you to visit and see why we say “The View’s Great Up Here!”
